Artist's Description

A Buddhist monk crosssing the causeway in front of the south gate of Angkor Thom. The causeway is guarded by 54 stone figures of gods on the west side and 54 figures of demons on the east side.
Angkor Thom was the capital city of the Khmer empire until the year 1431 when the capital was moved to a site near the modern city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
